The note perfect accuracy doesn't let up with the rhythm section either - Wanda Ortiz fills the Steve Harris role perfectly, ripping through the lightning speed gallops of The Trooper
with foot on monitor just like the man himself, and Linda McDonald, complete with Nicko McBrain-approved Sooty puppet, keeps things tight, perfectly nailing the classic fills everyone knows and loves that were made famous by the aforementioned Sooty fan, and the dear departed Clive Burr.
The setlist is very much focussed on World Slavery Tour-era Maiden, with only two songs played that were originally recorded after 1984. Seeing them all performed live really served to remind me how many great songs Maiden actually had at their peak, before they started to flirt, and eventually fall head over heels in love with, the proggy longer songs. It really is classic after classic. The only downer for me personally was that Alexander The Great
didn't get an airing, but that was more due to The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner-favouring Leamington crowd than the band themselves, with the choice between the two songs put to an audience vote. However, hearing my all time favourite Phantom Of The Opera
a couple of songs later more than made up for that.
Now one more time: Scream for me, Royal Leamington Spa!
